“Every act of creation is first of all an act of destruction.”

-Picasso

This archetype may appear ravage, ruthless and even savage. It embodies rage against structures that no longer support society. The destroyer sweeps through with a strong presence to crash down everything of existence.

As a person, the destroyer may put others into harms way as it takes down the empire. They may be careless of even their own safety nonetheless the people around them.

As an event, the destroyer will take create mass destruction of everything in its path. This archetype will hit the core of gut wrenching disturbance.

The destroyer doesn’t really know what it can do with its power except destroy. And although this may all seem like there is no light aspect to this there is!

LIGHT OF DESTROYER

The destroyer is a catalyst for metamorphosis. Viewed as an event or a person, the destroyer can turn the world into an even playing game. They can present our largest and greatest fears, so we are faced with them. From here, we can grow. We will be presented with choice of fear or love. We are forced to create a new.

They will start the transformation process and which provides us the opportunity to let go of what was created in order for a new to be in the place. We are comfortable with seeing what is next and what is around the corner. The destroyer makes others feel uncomfortable because they don’t know what is next.

In the light, we can use the destroyer energy to assist us in transformation. At the highest level possible, the destroyer assists others to let go of anything that doesn’t support or serve the person. This is in values and beliefs in order to push them into growth. It’s healthy for us to have a destroyer archetype at times to transform the old into the new.

SHADOW OF DESTROYER

Self-destruction, unwillingness to rebuild

We all have some level of destroyer. The destroyer again is a catalyst for change, so it’s healthy to have the destroyer to create changes within us. With that being said, there’s also an unhealthy destroyer, the one who turns against himself.

Think about the person who is an addict and keeps destroying themselves over and over. Or a person who can’t choose a different lifestyle even though they need to. Let’s say you know you are to give up sugar, gluten or even coffee, but you refuse. You are essentially giving into the shadow aspect of the destroyer and allowing someone else to take care of your health. Remember, the destroyer comes to allow us the time to sit in the unknown to create a new. It’s a choice to let go and create a new.

Task of the Destroyer: Knock down everything. All boundaries. All safety nets.

Gift of the Destroyer: Provides big opportunities for metamorphosis
