Rituals & Ceremonies
I ended my long distance shamanic healing last night by thanking and saying goodbye to the spirit team who showed up. As I closed our session by drumming, I saw the black panther return down his road and disappear. My heart was filled with gratitude for our work together.
My ritual for calling in the Spirit Team has changed over the years, but it still has the same structure. There is an opening and an ending. I used to start off with a simple prayer, calling in the team. Over the years, as I transitioned into deeper practices, I now use my drum. There is so much magic behind the drum.
Some people us the term ritual and ceremony interchangeably. Some people suggest that a ritual is part of the structure of a ceremony. I find that rituals are things that you do repeatedly, while a ceremony might be performed once or a few times with the same intention. A ritual, I do often but I see the blurred lines too of how they can be named interchangeably.
For example, I call in my Spirit Team the same way every time. But a ceremony, I would perform perhaps only once with that specific intention. When I’m in a shamanic healing sessions I have a beginning (calling in the directions and guides), the middle (the actual healing) and then the end (closing the space).
People don’t often do ceremonies and I believe it’s because it’s not commonly used in our western culture. I also find many people who look “down” on people who do ceremonies as “cooky” or “strange.” But we are really missing out by not stepping into the power and connection of the Universe in this way. As being a co-creator with the Universe, we need to bring back that strong connection into our lives.
Before I moved out of my parents home, we had a new neighbor that moved in. The lady of the house would come out and pray every morning to her grass. She sat in all directions and she had the most beautiful grass in the hood!
Ceremonies and rituals are used to heal, transmute and assist people in their lives. When we step into this role, we are taking an active stand in the creation of what we want to become. We are again, co-creators, so therefore we are depending our connection to who we are and becoming empowered!
Structure to Get You Started:
- Set the intention for your work, may it be in the Highest Good of all
- Opening (call in your Spirit Team)
- Ceremony or work to be performed
- Closing
You may want to upgrade your vibration before you do your work. I don’t always meditate before beginning. Instead I raise my vibration with some music. I may sing, dance to get me going because it expands my heart chakra. And despite what you may think, I don’t use “meditation music’ to do so. You will find me singing to any songs that bring FIRE to my field. This could be Pink, Moana soundtrack and even Eminem. You know the songs that you feel in your core that make empower you? I go for them before calling in my guides. Because this is a personal experience, you should do whatever feels right to you. If rapping to Eminem isn’t your thing, don’t make it be!
The Best Guidelines To Use:
- Don’t manipulate the world. What comes around, goes around so be thoughtful with your actions.
- Remember to be humbled. This is something I practice because my guides will let me know when I’m not!
- Be specific with intention. You don’t want to go into ceremony all nilly-willy, who knows where that could lead!
- Honor yourself. We don’t do this often enough. I first connect to my Higher Self, then to the Creators. Finally I connect to the client and their spirit guides. It’s really important to always honor yourself.
- Have fun as you connect in with your Spirit Team and make space and communication between you both!
Ceremonies don’t have to be hard. They can be quite easy. You can make them as long or as little as you want. Some ceremonies can go on for one day or even months! And still some can be as little as one night. It depends on your intention. Intention + Connection are the keys to empowerment.
