The Root Chakra
When I first started my work, I fell in love with the chakras. I wanted to know everything about them. As my work became deeper and saw many clients over the years, I continued working with them because of the vast impact they have on people’s lives.
The chakras are energy systems that run along your spine. Some psychics can see them and others can feel them. They are spinning vortexes of energy that hold patterns of the past and present inside. Each one is in “charge” of a different area of your life. They work individually as a center and together as a system.
The first chakra is called the ROOT chakra and is located at the base of the spine and is associated with the color red.
It looks after family, safety, survival, finances. The root chakra wants to make sure your primary needs are met.
It is also the center of our physical wellbeing and energetic foundation. You will want to start with the root chakra to make sure you have a solid foundation to work on.
When the root chakra is imbalanced, the archetype of The Victim will appear.
One of the lower energy types is the victim archetype because they experience everything outside themselves. They don’t take responsibility for their circumstances but may see everything else as being the problem. They are in a state of helplessness. A victim’s mind is stuck in fear with little or no sense of empowerment.
When the root chakra is severely imbalanced, it will connect to the sacral chakra through addiction. If the root chakra is depleted or little, the person may choose to use addiction to overcompensate the imbalance. In order to survive and replenish the area of the root chakra, there needs to be work on trusting our Highest Good and feel rooted in the body.
When the root chakra is balanced, you will experience the archetype of The Mother.
A person with a balanced root chakra will know that no matter what life’s challenges are they can meet them head on and knowing the highest outcome is working.
The Mother teaches us how to take care of ourselves and respect our own needs. When we truly start to love ourselves, we feel safe and are able to stop projecting our needs onto others.
To keep the Mother aspect in balance, we need to make sure that we are nourished and loved. The more often we take care of ourselves and our needs are met from the inside, the healthier we will become. Loving and caring for ourselves the way that is best for us.
When the root chakra manifests an imbalance you may experience:
- Anxiety or depression
- The want to isolate yourself from others
- Little sense of community
- Overly attached to the material outcome
- Unable to change or let go
- Get stuck in the same patterns and routines
- Feeling fatigued
Problems associated with the root chakra are….
- Being ungrounded in your body. Grounding is way to connect with the ground of Mother Earth and release any stagnant energy that has built up in the body. We can uncover the truth our body is trying to connect with us when we are in a grounded state.
- Abandonment emotional issues from childhood
- Feeling fatigued
- Having unstable parents
- Physically moving when emotionally not prepared
- Lack of money growing up
- Living paycheck to paycheck
- Feeling never have enough or that you have to hold on tightly
- Big life changes
- Health issues
Energetic Remedies:
- Sound is can be used to shift this energetic field first. Try playing binaural beats specifically for the root chakra. You can always click on Youtube and find a video.
- Square: The symbol of a square represents feeling grounded and secure.
- Color therapy: For a deficient root chakra, experiment with the color red. For an excessive chakra, experiment with different shades of blue.
- Meditate to cleanse and clear the root chakra out daily.

- Practice running energy loops between your crown chakra to root charka and out to a tree
- Take responsibility for your ideas, attitude, beliefs and circumstances
- Honor your feelings
- Ask yourself what beliefs you are holding onto
